Parma Area Morning Kiwanis
   Key Club

Normandy Key Club Editorial, January 2010
The students of Normandy High School should be proud to note that many
of their fellow students are active participants in the oldest and
largest service program for high school students—Key Club International.

Our service group is lead by student officers, a volunteer teacher, and
volunteers from the Parma Area Morning Kiwanis group. The organization
provides leadership opportunities through the service of others.  We are
currently proud to be working on the following projects: collecting pop
tabs for donation to the Ronald McDonald House (to fund the hospital
stays of families dealing with medical crisis), “Project Linus” blanket
creation (we make and donate blankets to local emergency rooms to give
to children in trauma units), we annually collect “tube socks” to donate
to area homeless (an on-going effort-the collection box is located in
the Normandy High School main office) and “Adopt a Family” (with our
Parma Area Morning Kiwanis group—we raised money, purchased, and wrapped
gifts for a local family in need).

During winter break, Key Club students generously gave their time to
wrap gifts at the Southpark Mall.  Proceeds from this project are set to
go toward creating a “Day of Service” for the freshman at Normandy High
School.  It is not uncommon to see a Normandy Key Club student
volunteering on a Friday evening—they can often be found donating their
time at local hospital and church fundraisers—always working to better
the Parma Community.  Students recently served at the Parma Area Family
Collaborative Dinner for the less fortunate families living within the
district.  During the holiday season, our club enjoyed an afternoon of
caroling at the Pleasant Lake Villa and spent a day writing and sending
holiday cards to the brave men and women serving our country overseas.

Throughout the school year, the Key Club regularly works to help the
Parma Heights food pantry.  Club members, on numerous occasions, have
assisted with the passing out of levy literature to those living within
the school district.  Additionally, we have been active in collecting
formal wear for “Project Fairy God-mother” and donated the dresses to
students living in the Cleveland and Parma areas. A major project the
Key Club took on this fall was the International Trick or Treat for
UNICEF project.  Students at Normandy paid to wear a “funny hat” to
school for the day, donating the proceeds to provide medicine, better
nutrition, safe water, education, emergency relief and other support to
children in more than 150 countries.

The Key Club of Normandy High School believes that volunteering should
be a way of life.  We love our school district and community and we
appreciate all of the support each one provides.
